Bringing Traditional Latvian Weaving to Life
We're doriapine SIA, dedicated to teaching authentic belt loom weaving and pattern design in the heart of Kuldīga. We believe this craft shouldn't disappear — it should thrive.
Why We Started This
Doriapine SIA launched in 2019 because we noticed something troubling: traditional Latvian belt weaving was fading. Fewer young people were learning the techniques. The patterns weren't being passed down. And honestly, that felt wrong.
We're not a museum piece or a historical society. We're practical people who understand that traditions survive when they're actively taught and genuinely enjoyed. So we created beginner workshops in Kuldīga — a place where anyone curious about this craft can actually learn it hands-on.
Today, we're focused on one thing: making sure people can walk in, pick up a shuttle, and understand what they're doing. We don't rush. We don't assume prior knowledge. And we definitely don't make it feel intimidating.
Our Teaching Philosophy
We've designed our beginner classes around what actually works. No pretension. No overwhelming theory before practice. Just clear instruction and plenty of hands-on time.
Patient Teaching
We've trained instructors who remember what it's like to be confused. Everyone learns at their own pace, and that's fine.
Pattern Design
We don't just teach you to copy patterns. You'll understand how traditional designs work so you can create your own.
Quality Equipment
Our looms are well-maintained and our materials are genuine. You're working with the real thing from day one.
Community Focus
Small groups mean you're not lost in a crowd. You'll connect with others who share this interest.
Authentic Kuldīga Craft
Belt weaving isn't just a hobby for us — it's part of Latvian identity. Kuldīga has a long history with this craft, and we're committed to keeping that connection alive.
When you learn with us, you're not learning from a manual. You're learning techniques refined over generations. The patterns we teach carry cultural weight. The methods we use have been proven by time.
We've also built relationships with local artisans and historians. This isn't theoretical knowledge — it's the real practice, the authentic approach, adapted for modern beginners.
What We're Actually About
Doriapine SIA doesn't exist to make money from weaving. We exist to make sure the knowledge survives. That's it.
You'll find our beginner classes are affordable because we're not trying to extract maximum profit. You'll find our instructors genuinely patient because we care about whether you actually learn. And you'll find our content is detailed and practical because we've thought about what beginners actually need.
If you walk away from our workshop with basic technical skill, understanding of traditional patterns, and confidence that you can keep learning — we've done our job.
