Why Learn with Us

Our approach is straightforward. We teach real weaving techniques using traditional Latvian methods that have been passed down for generations.

We don't just show you how to move the threads — we explain the why behind each technique. You'll understand pattern construction, color theory, and tension control. Most beginners feel confident with their basic skills after just three sessions.

We work in small groups so everyone gets individual attention. Whether you're working on your first sampler or tackling a more complex pattern, you'll have guidance every step of the way. Plus, there's something special about learning alongside others who share your curiosity about traditional crafts.

How Beginner Workshops Work

A clear path from complete beginner to confident weaver

1

First Session: Loom Basics

You'll arrive and we'll walk through every part of the loom. How it's set up. Why tension matters. What each tool does. By the end of the session, you'll have warped your first loom and made your first few passes with the shuttle. Don't worry if it feels clumsy — that's completely normal.

2

Sessions 2-3: Building Muscle Memory

Now you're repeating the core techniques. Your hands are learning the rhythm. We're watching for tension issues and correcting them before they become habits. You'll start to feel the difference between loose and tight weaving. By session three, most people aren't thinking about every movement anymore — it's becoming automatic.

3

Sessions 4-6: Pattern Work

With the basics solid, we introduce pattern charts. How to read them. How colors work together. You'll practice simple patterns first, then gradually tackle more complex designs. This is where weaving becomes creative, not just technical.

4

Ongoing: Your Own Projects

You're ready to work on longer projects. A complete belt. Variations on traditional patterns. We're still here for troubleshooting, but now you're mostly driving your own learning. That's the real sign you've got this.

Common Questions

Not at all. We start with complete beginners. If you can tie a knot and follow instructions, you're ready. We teach everything else step by step.

Just yourself. We provide looms, thread, needles, and all tools. Wear something comfortable you don't mind getting lint on. No special equipment needed.

Most people feel confident with basics after 3-4 sessions. But weaving has depth — you can keep learning and improving for years. The question isn't really "how long to learn" but "how deep do you want to go."

We can point you toward quality looms after you've trained with ours. That way you know exactly what you're looking for. Many people start with us, then invest in their own equipment later.

We run separate beginner sessions for adults. Kids programs vary by season. Contact us to ask about what's available when you're interested.

That's what we're here for. Dropped threads, tension problems, pattern confusion — we've seen it all. We'll help you fix it and show you how to prevent it next time.
